CEECAW: Challenges for Organising and Collective Bargaining in Care, Administration and Waste collection sectors in Central Eastern European Countries

CELSI was boosting collective bargaining in CEE: insights from the workshop

Jan. 31, 2025

How can we ensure stronger collective bargaining and better wages in key public service sectors across Slovakia, Czechia, and Hungary?

That was the focus of yesterday’s CEECAW Boost Workshop, hosted by CELSI at the European Commission Representation in Slovakia.

The workshop, part of the CEECAW project, brought together trade unionists, researchers, and policymakers to explore how to expand sectoral agreements in care services, public administration, and waste management.

Key discussions included:

  • The role of the EU Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages in strengthening collective bargaining
  • Current challenges and opportunities for collective agreements in CEE countries
  • Roundtable talks on specific sectoral needs and strategies
  • A public debate on bargaining for better pay, co-organized with Euractiv.sk
