The event, which took place on Thursday, January 23, at the CEU Auditorium, was dedicated to the book “The Transformation of Discontent: Labor Protest in Healthcare and Education Across Europe”, authored by Imre Szabó, a visiting lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Central European University (CEU).
In this insightful volume, Szabó explores the evolving role of public sector unions in shaping labor protests across Europe, focusing on the healthcare and education sectors. By examining the political and social aspects of labour movements, the book offers a critical look at how public sector workers are driving change and revitalizing protest movements across the continent.
CELSI director Marta Kahancová, together with Anil Duman, head of Political Science Department at CEU, was invited to the launch, joining a discussion about the book, public sector unions, and the state of European unions in general.
“Congratulations to your wonderful book launch and to the high quality book itself! It was such a pleasure reading it, and I will certainly go back more deeply to some chapters, as your book incited a lot of questions that I am also currently working on,” said Marta Kahancová.
