CELSI' BRIEFING PAPER FOR THE EP MARKS TODAY's INTERNATIONAL ROMA DAY
On the occasion of the International Roma Day, on April 8, 2020, CELSI researchers Martin Kahanec, Lucia Kováčová and Maria Sedláková (together with Zuzana Poláčková from the Slovak Academy of Sciences) published a study on “The social and employment situation of Roma communities in Slovakia”, commissioned by the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL).
In addition to presenting key indicators on employment and poverty and reviewing the existing social and employment policies, the analysis also details the situation of Roma children in education, presents the achievements and lessons learned of EU funds used for marginalized communities and, finally, reviews the work of other relevant organizations (EFRA, Council of Europe, ERRC, and ECA) in assessing the situation of Roma people in Slovakia.
