DEEPLAB: Implications of deep decarbonization of the high emission industries on labour market and employees
Decarbonising Slovak industry and the future of work: DEEPLAB results
March 20, 2026
What impact will decarbonisation have on jobs in Slovak industry? And can electrification help preserve employment?
At our online event on 16 March 2026, we presented the second part of the DEEPLAB project results, this time focusing on industrial transformation and labour market impacts up to 2050.
The event opened with a presentation of modelling results on future labour demand under different decarbonisation scenarios.
This was followed by a panel discussion bringing together representatives from trade unions, industry, and sectoral bodies to reflect on key challenges and opportunities.
The panel featured:
- Monika Benedeková (OZ KOVO)
- Rudolf Mackovič (Cement Manufacturers Association)
- Alexandra Šarinová (Sectoral Council for Metallurgy, Foundry and Forging)
The discussion addressed:
- employment impacts of decarbonisation pathways,
- future skills needs,
- and policy measures needed to ensure a just transition.

📊 The first results from our modelling are now published on the project website: https://deeplab.celsi.sk/en/results/
The DEEPLAB project explores the economic implications of decarbonisation and its effects on labour markets, with a particular focus on hard-to-abate sectors and their supply chains in Slovakia.
It was supported by the European Union – NextGenerationEU through the Slovak Recovery and Resilience Plan.
