CEECAW: Challenges for Organising and Collective Bargaining in Care, Administration and Waste collection sectors in Central Eastern European Countries

Invitation to the Boost Workshop, focused on enhancing and expanding collective bargaining in Slovakia, Hungary, and Czechia

Jan. 16, 2025

The Central European Labour Studies Institute invites you to the Boost Workshop, focused on enhancing and expanding collective bargaining in Slovakia, Hungary, and Czechia in three sectors: care services, public administration, and waste management.

The event will take place on January 30, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the European Commission Representation in Slovakia, Palisády 29, Bratislava.

This is an onside and online meeting. The language of the event is Slovak, with interpretation into English and Hungarian. Based on your registration, we will send you a Zoom webinar link to join before the meeting.

At the meeting, we will discuss with relevant stakeholders the potential and obligations stemming from the Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages and its Article 4, which addresses the expansion of collective bargaining in the national economy, specifically in the sectors of long-term care, pre-primary education, central public administration, and waste management.

These public service sectors are of interest to the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU). The workshop is organized as part of the CEECAW project, supported by the European Union.

The event will focus on the following questions:

  • What is the potential of the Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages and collective bargaining for Slovakia and the CEE countries?
  • What is the current state of the Directive’s implementation, particularly Article 4 (action plan for increasing collective agreement coverage)?
  • What developments can we consider positive concerning collective bargaining and the organization of workers?
