64
2025 - 2027
Empowering automotive regions in Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia to achieve a socially just and climate-resilient mobility transition through knowledge, training, and stakeholder engagement.
Project number:
24_020
This project is part of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).

The transition to climate-neutral mobility is critical for achieving the European Union’s climate goals, particularly in regions with a strong automotive industry.
In Central and Eastern Europe, the automotive sector plays a pivotal role in regional economies, but the shift towards sustainable mobility requires significant changes. These include decarbonizing transportation, fostering sustainable production and consumption patterns, and addressing social justice.
In countries like Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia, there is limited attention to the broader concept of sustainable mobility and insufficient involvement of workers' representatives in transition policies.
This project aligns with the EU Green Deal, EU Climate Law, and national strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector, while addressing the socio-economic challenges posed by the mobility shift. By integrating environmental and social considerations, the project supports a fair and inclusive transition for automotive regions in the Visegrad countries.
Project
The project strengthens the ability of automotive regions in Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia to transition fairly and sustainably. To achieve this, the project establishes a comprehensive knowledge base that maps the ecological mobility industry and ongoing just transition processes in these regions.
It develops training modules for regional stakeholders, enabling them to design and implement effective mobility transition strategies. Interactive roundtables and forums promote co-creation, networking, and mutual learning among workers, employers, policymakers, and trade unions.
A digital toolkit equips stakeholders with resources for self-assessment, strategy development, and inclusive decision-making processes. Dissemination activities, such as a dedicated website, social media outreach, and events, ensure that project findings and tools reach a broad audience.
By actively engaging stakeholders and promoting participatory approaches, the project empowers regions to achieve a socially just and environmentally sustainable transformation.
