Milena Nikolova received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland – College Park in 2014. She is currently a Research Associate at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn, Germany and the Managing Editor of the Journal of Population Economics. Milena is also a Nonresident Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC and is affiliated with the Happiness Research Organization in Düsseldorf, Germany. Her research focuses on subjective well-being, migration, civil society and nonprofits, and transition economies. Milena's professional experience has included policy-oriented applied work at the World Bank, the Brookings Institution, and the Urban Institute in Washington, DC. She has recently published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, World Development, and Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly. Milena Nikolova is also the co-author of several research reports and book chapters. Milena's work (joint with Carol Graham) has been mentioned in outlets such as Project Syndicate, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic.
