J. David Brown joined the U.S. Census Bureau’s Center for Economic Studies in July 2009. He has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, he has taught at the Stockholm School of Economics (1996-2001) and Heriot-Watt University (2001-2009), and he has been an affiliated researcher at the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics, the Center for Economic Reform and Transformation (Heriot-Watt University), the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), and the Central European University Labor Project. Dr. Brown has published research on firm- and worker-level effects of public policies, in particular privatization and financial access. He has also studied productivity and industry dynamics under conditions of structural change and firms’ use of immigrant labor.
