CELSI joins the celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which this year focuses on the role of AI and digitalization in the workplace.

April 28 marks the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, established by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2003 to promote safe and healthy working environments across the globe.

This year, the ILO’s campaign sheds light on how new technologies are transforming Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). As the digital transformation of work has led to evolving work arrangements - such as telework and digital labour platforms - these will also be highlighted this year.

Recognizing the importance of safety and health at work, CELSI addresses various issues in this area through its research, currently focusing mainly on platform work and the mental health of workers.

  • Platform work: CELSI Managing Director Marta Kahancová supported the European Platform for Tackling Undeclared Work, a permanent working group of the European Labour Authority (ELA), in recent debates on the classification of workers in the platform economy, in response to the recently adopted Directive on Platform Work in the EU.
  • IncreMe(n)tal project: This project aims to increase metalworkers’ representatives’ awareness and skills in mental health protection and promotion in the workplace.

  • TransEuroWorks project: This research focuses on three critical structural labour market transformations: the green transition and decarbonisation, automation and digitalization, and the internationalisation of the workforce. CELSI examines how social dialogue supports flexible workers (especially agency and platform workers) in accessing social security measures.
