The Covid-19 pandemic, wars, and political crises in various countries have had a profound impact on the world of work. Digitalization and globalization continue to reshape regulations and challenge social justice worldwide.

Discussing these trends is the main objective of the 24th World Labour Law Congress, organized by Mercatorum University and the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law, taking place from 17 to 20 September 2024 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome.

On Wednesday, September 18, the WageIndicator Foundation hosted a session titled "Towards Fair Compensation," featuring CELSI researcher Nina Holičková along with Fiona Dragstra, Paulien Osse, Dr. Rupa Korde, and Nii Ashia Amanquarnor.

They explored the key differences between Minimum Wages, Living Wages, and Adequate Wages, and how these concepts intersect with EU Directives, SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN), and UN Guiding Principles.

Nina presented the research conducted in collaboration with CELSI experts Martin Kahanec and Martin Guzi, and WageIndicator's Nii Ashia, examining whether living wages offer a more effective benchmark for breaking the cycle of poverty than minimum or adequate wages.
