ILERA Asian Regional Congress 2026: Challenges in the New World of Work
Published on Feb. 16, 2026

From 3 to 5 September 2026, the 11th Asian Regional Congress of the International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA) will take place in Tokyo, Japan, at Hosei University – Ichigaya Campus and the TKP Ichigaya Conference Centre.
The central theme – “Challenges in the New World of Work – How Should We Respond to Emerging Technologies?” – addresses how advances in information technology and artificial intelligence are reshaping employment, work organisation, and labour market institutions.
CELSI Managing Director Marta Kahancová, who serves on the Executive Committee of ILERA, will also present a research paper on collective bargaining in the age of algorithmic management.
The paper, co-authored with Gabriele Medas and Intan Citra Phonskaningtyas (WageIndicator) and CELSI researchers Tomáš Šarközi and Daryn Zholdasbay, is a collaborative project conducted with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Competence Centre and UNI Europa.
It provides valuable insights into the current state of collective bargaining over AI-related tools between employers and workers.
The 11th Asian Regional Congress ILERA 2026 is jointly hosted by the Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training (JILPT) and the Japan Industrial Relations Research Association (JIRRA) and supported by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (JTUC-RENGO), and the Japan Business Federation (KEIDANREN).
