The future of the EU labour market: challenges, transformation, and policy choices
Published on Jan. 19, 2026

How will digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and industrial restructuring reshape work and employment in Europe? And how should EU policies and the next long term EU budget respond to these changes?
CELSI Managing Director Marta Kahancová will take part in an expert discussion titled “The future of the European labour market. The world is changing. The EU budget must adapt.”, organised by the Office of the European Parliament in Slovakia and the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA).
The discussion will focus on the key structural challenges facing European labour markets, including technological change, new forms of work, declining competitiveness in some sectors, and the social consequences of industrial transformation.
An important part of the debate will also address how EU institutions, including the European Parliament and the European Commission, can support quality jobs, workers’ rights, and a fair transition through upcoming policy initiatives and the EU budget for 2028 to 2034.
Marta Kahancová will contribute CELSI’s expertise on labour market institutions, social dialogue, industrial change, and just transition, with a particular focus on Central and Eastern Europe and Slovakia.
