On 28–29 November, the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca hosted the workshop “Labor and Society: Knowledge, Politics, and Futures of Work”, marking the official launch of the new Center for Labor and Society (CLS).

The Center for Labor and Society (CLS) is a new interdisciplinary hub dedicated to research and collaboration focused on work, inequality, and social transformation. Closely associated with the MA programme Labor and Social Transformations, CLS connects research, education, and public discourse on labour politics in Romania, Central and Eastern Europe, and beyond.

As part of the opening roundtable “Labor Research in Central and Eastern Europe”, CELSI Senior Researcher Tibor T. Meszmann joined Adam Mrozowicki, Aurora Trif, Delia Bădoi, and Radu Stochiță to reflect on the trajectories of labour research in the region and the institutional and political conditions shaping it.

Tibor contributed insights from his research on trade union politics, automotive labour, temporary migrant work, and platform-mediated employment.

The programme continued with two further roundtables featuring Don Kalb and Alina-Sandra Cucu on methodological politics in labour research, and Dora Fonseca, Maria-Luiza Apostolescu, Valentin Niebler, and Tsvetelina Hristova discussing how current transformations influence the futures of labour.
