On November 12, 2025, CELSI Scientific Director Martin Kahanec participated in a high-level panel discussion at the Košice Economic Forum, hosted by the Faculty of Economics at the Technical University of Košice (TUKE).

The event, titled “A Vision for Slovakia: Crossroads, Paths, Goals,” brought together leading experts to discuss Slovakia’s long-term direction in a rapidly changing geopolitical, economic, and social environment.

The forum addressed some of the most pressing questions facing Slovakia today:

  • How can the country remain competitive and resilient as global transformations accelerate?
  • What reforms are needed to safeguard sustainable growth and social cohesion?
  • Which strategic decisions will shape Slovakia’s development in the coming decades?

The panel featured:

  • Martin Kahanec – Professor at Central European University; Scientific Director, CELSI; laureate of the ESET Science Award
  • Branislav Kováčik – Dean, Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, Matej Bel University
  • Miroslav Štefánik – Director, Institute of Economics, Slovak Academy of Sciences
  • Michal Vašečka – Program Director, Bratislava Policy Institute

The discussion took place over two sessions, followed by audience engagement and Q&A.

In his remarks, Martin Kahanec highlighted the importance of forward-looking economic policies, evidence-based decision-making, and the strategic role of education, research, and human capital in shaping Slovakia’s future prosperity.

Drawing on CELSI’s research, he commented on labour market challenges, demographic pressures, mobility trends, and the importance of strengthening institutions and societal resilience.

CELSI wishes to thank the Faculty of Economics at TUKE for organizing the Košice Economic Forum and for providing a platform for open dialogue among experts, academics, policymakers, and the wider public.
