CELSI Director Martin Kahanec in the Expert Panel of Denník E: How should the government support Slovak industry during trade wars?
Slovakia faces the risk of economic damage from trade wars, especially in the automotive sector, which represents a significant share of the country's exports.
In Denník E’s Expert Panel, economists responded to the question of how the government should - and should not - support Slovak exporters threatened by trade conflicts.
“The current response of the EU, which imposed retaliatory tariffs (and then suspended them in reaction to Trump’s halt of U.S. tariffs), is - from a game theory perspective - an essential signal of its willingness to defend free trade through a punitive strategy,” says Martin Kahanec, professor of economics and co-founder of the Central European Labour Studies Institute (CELSI).
