CELSI Director Marta Kahancová discussed the issue of fake self-employment on Rádio Slovensko with the president of the Slovak Trade Union Association, Stanislav Čižmárik.

Slovakia stands out in the EU for the number of fake self-employed workers. According to the Slovak Ministry of Labour, more than 100,000 people are forced into self-employment, performing dependent work at set times determined by their superior, without rights to holidays or sick leave, and with worse social insurance.

Such fake self-employed individuals, who essentially work as employees, pose also a significant problem for the economy. The state loses approximately 200 million euros annually because the tax and and social security contributions on self-employment is significantly lower.

Kahancová reminded listeners that the state must, on the one hand, support a healthy environment for businesses and self-employed individuals, but on the other hand, it must also responsibly address sufficient social protection for workers, a balanced tax and social security contributions, and pension security for workers.

"The state is responsible for the conditions it creates. For example, it must address the issue of unifying the tax and and social security contributions between dependent work and self-employment, ensure proper insurance, protection, and workplace safety. Only then will people be motivated to work in a way that truly suits them," she emphasized.
