CELSI Managing Director and labour market researcher Marta Kahancová was a guest on the Slovak Radio talk show Hosť Rádia Slovensko on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
In conversation with Nora Gubková, Marta discussed current and emerging trends in the Slovak labour market, including changes linked to the evolving model of the Slovak economy, the growing role of artificial intelligence, and how digitalisation is reshaping work and employment relations.
The discussion also touched on home office arrangements after the pandemic and changing expectations of younger generations entering the labour market.
Marta also reflected on her own academic path and years spent abroad, her motivation to return, and why she values working and living in Slovakia.
She spoke about teaching and working with students at the Institute of Public Policy, Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava, and the importance of connecting research, education, and public debate.
A key part of the conversation focused on young people making decisions about their education and life direction in a time of uncertainty, as well as on the reality that many Slovak students leave abroad to study and often do not return.
Marta highlighted the growing importance of individual motivation and active decision making, while stressing the responsibility of society to create supportive conditions and guidance.
Responding to a question about why young people should consider returning to Slovakia, she emphasised personal and collective responsibility, saying: “This is our country, and if we do not build it ourselves, no one will do it for us.”
