CELSI Scientific Director Martin Kahanec, together with Kamila Borseková and Samuel Korony from the Faculty of Economics, Matej Bel University (Banská Bystrica, Slovakia), published a new article in Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space on the spatial and temporal dynamics of convergence across EU labour markets.
The article “Decision tree insights into spatial and temporal patterns of convergence in EU labour markets” (2025) introduces an innovative approach to studying regional convergence in the EU by applying decision tree modelling to labour market efficiency indicators from 258 NUTS2 regions across 25 EU countries.
The study identifies distinct clusters of regions showing shared convergence, divergence, or structural patterns, offering a deeper and data-driven understanding of how European labour markets evolve over time.
Its findings reveal a heterogeneous and dynamic landscape, underscoring the need for tailored, region-specific policies rather than one-size-fits-all approaches.
The article stems from collaboration within the BRRIDGE project, which brings together the Central European University, European University Institute, University of Galway, and Matej Bel University.
