Trade unions across Europe are facing declining membership in traditional sectors while struggling to organise low-paid service workers. Innovation is increasingly key to revitalising unions and maintaining their role as collective actors.
The new ETUI publication “When Trade Unions Learn to Innovate. Case study evidence from across Europe” explores eleven cases of union innovation in eight European countries. It highlights the factors that help new practices take root and scale, from grassroots activism to supportive leadership and organisational learning.
Based on extensive fieldwork, CELSI senior researchers Monika Martišková and Adam Šumichrast contributed the chapter on Czechia: “Chapter 2 – The grouping of trade union members revisited”. Their work examines how Czech trade unions experiment with innovative approaches to organise and engage members.
