SEAD: Enhancing socio-ecological dialogue in the automotive industry

Mapping future trajectories of the automotive industry in Hungary

March 9, 2026

On 19 February 2026, the Hungarian national foresight workshop was held in Budapest within the framework of the Enhancing Socio-Ecological Dialogue in the Automotive Industry (SEAD) project.

The workshop brought together employer representatives and trade union officials to reflect on possible development paths of the automotive sector at a time of rapid technological and regulatory change.

At the beginning of the event, CELSI researcher Tibor Meszmann presented key research findings. He reflected on current trends in product and labour markets in selected Visegrad countries and the EU, changes in the organisation of production, and the prospects for social dialogue and collective bargaining.

Building on CELSI’s research input, the discussion focused on identifying plausible future scenarios and translating them into strategic considerations for social partners.

The workshop created space for structured dialogue on how digitalisation, automation and decarbonisation may reshape production models, jobs, skills needs and institutional frameworks in Hungary.

Participants examined how different transition pathways could affect employment structures, workforce adaptability and collective representation in the coming decades.

The workshop was hosted by the Vasas Trade Union Federation and took place at the organisation’s premises in Budapest.
