The metal industry plays an important role in the economies of several European countries, yet we still lack sufficient knowledge about the mental health challenges faced by workers in this sector.
On Thursday, June 12, trade unionists gathered at the headquarters of OZ KOVO for a training session on protecting mental health in the workplace in the metal industry.
The training focused on the theoretical and regulatory framework for mental health protection and the prevention of psychosocial risks related to employees' mental well-being.
The goal was to properly map and identify relevant institutions, key elements of national and European legislation, as well as tools of collective bargaining currently in place for this purpose. The training also addressed the question of corporate responsibility in this area.
In practice, the training also focused on techniques that can help resolve acute mental health issues at both company and individual levels, and on the role of trade unions in this respect.
CELSI researcher Lenka Hanulová also presented the findings of our research conducted within the IncreMe(n)tal project, which explores mental health in the metal industry across seven countries: Belgium, Ireland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, and Italy.
The project is funded by the European Commission and is being implemented by CELSI in cooperation with the Slovak trade union OZ KOVO.
