EcoMobility Transition: Strengthening a Just Transition in the Automotive Industry
Automotive transformation and workforce challenges in Slovakia’s Trnava region
March 31, 2026
The roundtable titled “A region in flux: Eco-mobility and the future of the automotive industry in the Trnava region” took place in Trnava on 26 March 2026.
The event brought together regional stakeholders, including representatives of regional authorities, employers, trade unions, and research institutions, to discuss the ongoing transformation of the automotive sector and its implications for the labour market.
The roundtable was opened by the Vice-President of the Trnava Self-Governing Region, Patrik Voltmann.
Participants were introduced to key research findings presented by CELSI researcher Patrik Gažo, focusing on changes in production, employment, and mobility patterns, as well as on the role of social dialogue and stakeholder coordination in managing the transition.

The discussion addressed several pressing challenges, including labour shortages, skills gaps, and the increasing reliance on foreign workers, as well as the need for better coordination among regional actors in responding to these developments.
The Trnava roundtable marked the fourth in a series of stakeholder dialogues, following previous events in Debrecen, Katowice, and Ostrava.
These discussions aim to strengthen the capacity of regional actors across the V4 countries to manage structural change in the automotive sector in a fair and sustainable way.
By connecting research insights with stakeholder dialogue, the project contributes to more informed and inclusive regional strategies for managing the transition.
🙏 We would like to thank all participants for their active engagement and valuable discussion.
